Raymond M Olson, 90, died August 13, 2026, in Robbinsdale, MN. He was born July 18, 1936, in Minneapolis to Gustav and Minnie Halvorson Olson. Ray went to Bremer and Penn Elementary Schools, Jordan Jr. High School and graduated from North High in 1955. He worked for the main Minneapolis Public Library downtown for forty-two years. After he retired at the age of sixty-two, he took many trips to Norway. His wish was to go back one more time to visit relatives.
He enjoyed reading Christian Literature and all things Norwegian and has lots of books. As an Associate Member of Mindekirken, he took on the duties of the Alter Guild for two-three decades. He was good volunteer for whatever he was asked to do.
Syttende Mai at Mindekirken is a special time with many activities. In 2022 Marilyn Sorensen and Ray were the Grand Marshalls of the 17th of May Parade. His biggest thrill was on October 7, 2025, when he was one of only a few people who received a personal greeting from Kronprins Haakon Magnus of Norway on his visit to Mindekirken during the Bicentennial of Norwegian Immigration to America.
Ray belonged to many organizations: Sons of Norway Nidaros Lodge 1-001
(50-year membership), Solorlag of America, Tronderlag, Hedmark and North Hedmark Lag, Vesterheim, Norwegian American Historical Association and Norway House.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by many good friends.
The funeral will be Saturday, August 22 at 11:00 at Mindekirken, the
Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, 924 E 21st Street, Minneapolis, MN. Interment will be at Crystal Lake Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to Mindekirken with Ihelpfriendship in the memo line.
